What is Plasma Fibroblast Therapy?

Plasma fibroblast skin tightening therapy is a non-invasive procedure designed to combat wrinkles, loss of collagen, and sagging skin, providing skin-lifting, skin-tightening, and rejuvenation benefits.

This therapy targets fibroblasts—the collagen- and protein-producing cells located in the dermis, the layer of skin just below the outermost layer. Fibroblasts play a crucial role in facilitating skin wound healing, as well as maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

The Gold Standard Pen

At Bombesque, we utilize the latest plasma pen fibroblast technology from Plexr, the Gold Standard of plasma devices. Plexr is a first-of-its-kind device that offers the most treatments for skin indications without the need for invasive surgery.

How the Electric Arc Works

Plasma fibroblast therapy utilizes a pen-like device that emits a high-frequency electric current to targeted areas of the skin. The plasma tip doesn’t directly touch the skin, but instead releases a targeted current just above the skin along the wrinkle lines.

The needle-like attachment is a sterile, disposable, one-time use product. The pen is held above the skin, and a tiny plasma arc connects the tip of the device to the skin’s surface. Using plasma waves, the old collagen is removed by sublimation (evaporation), and fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen.

This hot current creates micro-injuries in the skin’s layer, which stimulates the recreation of collagen type I—the collagen we have in abundance when we’re younger. As we age, this is replaced by collagen type III, a loose and disorganized form of collagen.

The targeted skin contracts and is essentially eliminated without any cutting, resulting in the tightening and shrinking of the targeted area. This advanced procedure helps restore natural levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and fibronectin, essential for maintaining fresh, youthful skin. A series of tiny brown spots is strategically placed to attain the desired result. The skin around the dot tightens instantly, pulling the cells closer together.

Candidacy & Health Screenings

Am I a good candidate for Plasma Fibroplasty?

The best candidates for this procedure are individuals with mild to moderate skin wrinkling concernsand skin laxity that doesn't require major surgical intervention.

Contraindications

You should not receive plasma fibroblast therapy if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an allergy to topical anesthetic preparations
  • Have an infection at the treatment site
  • Are using isotretinoin (Accutane) for wrinkles or acne
  • Have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring
  • Have anemia
  • Have G6PD deficiency (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency)
  • Have Methemoglobinemia (affects blood pigment levels)
  • Have Atopic dermatitis (eczema)

Medication Risks

Please disclose if you are taking or applying any of the following:

SulphonamidesBacteriostatic antibiotics commonly used to treat urinary tract infections.
Other Local AnestheticsAny topical or injected numbing agent containing esters or amides you have a reaction to.
Mexiletine or AmiodaronePrescription medications used to manage irregular heartbeats.
If you have any health concerns whatsoever, we encourage you to consult with a healthcare provider before your appointment to discuss potential concerns related to your overall condition.

Procedure Guidelines & Pre-Treatment

Pre-Treatment Instructions

It is recommended that sun protection with an SPF of 30-50 be used daily for at least two weeks before the Fibroblast treatment(s). Skin care products with ingredients such as retinols, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), tretinoin, or any vitamin A derivative should be avoided. We recommend that you stay out of the sun, avoid tanning salons, and refrain from using self-tanning products for at least three weeks before your procedure. It is also advisable to refrain from taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen) for 7 days before your procedure.

Blood Thinners & Product Use

Although blood thinning is not considered a direct medical contraindication, it can severely impact the results. Natural blood thinners you ingest prevent proper plasma lift and dot formation. Refrain from the following for at least 3 days before:

Alcohol
Ibuprofen
Turmeric
Ginger
Cayenne Peppers
Vitamin E
Garlic
Cassia Cinnamon
Ginkgo Biloba
Grape Seed Extract
How do blood thinners impact fibroblast treatment? When the blood is thinner, you may experience more bleeding because the skin becomes more sensitive and prone to bruising. This entire procedure centers around plasma. We need the skin and body to be well hydrated with good oxygen flow. If you have elevated levels of blood thinners in your system, we may not achieve a significant plasma lift (plasma coagulation) in the skin or form the proper carbon crust (dot), leading to suboptimal results.
Use sunscreen (SPF 30+) daily for 2 weeks
Avoid advanced chemical skincare treatments
Stay out of direct sun & tanning beds for 2-3 weeks
Refrain from blood thinners for 3 days

Day of Treatment & Numbing Protocol

On the treatment day, it is recommended that no make-up is worn on the treatment area. You may take an antihistamine 30 minutes before your appointment to help with swelling and continue for 2-3 days following.

Basic Treatment Steps

  1. Cleanse & Anesthetize: Cleansing the skin and applying a topical anesthetic (numbing) cream. You will wait about 30 minutes for the numbing cream to take full effect.
  2. Fibroblast Application: The session begins with multiple connections of the fibroblast tip, spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable or slightly irritating.
  3. Duration: Treatment time is typically between 10 and 40 minutes per area, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Numbing Cream Allergen Warning

Numbing cream should not be used if you are allergic to any of the following ingredients:

LidocaineTetracainePrilocainePolyoxymethylene hydrogenated castor oilCarbomer 974PSodium hydroxidePurified water

Numbing Instructions: Self-Application

If Bombesque has provided you with a numbing cream kit to apply to yourself before your appointment, please follow these instructions:

1

Put on vinyl gloves: When applying the numbing cream to the treated areas, please use the vinyl gloves included in your kit to prevent the spread of bacteria from your hands to your face or other treated areas.

2

Cover treated area: Once the numbing cream has been applied, place the face guard or Saran wrap over the numbing area being treated, and Bridgette will take over from there once you arrive!

Recovery Timeline & Side Effects

Phase 1Immediate

Redness, mild sunburn sensation, and strategic carbon crusts (dots) forming. Eyelids may swell.

Phase 25 – 12 Days

Carbon crusts lift and fall off naturally. Mild redness persists as skin layers regenerate.

Phase 38 Weeks

Full tightening results appear. Collagens mature to pull skin cells tighter together.

Generally, the results of plasma fibroblast therapy are excellent. However, a perfect result is not a realistic expectation. Most clients see the positive effects of treatment immediately after the first treatment, but it typically takes eight weeks to see the full results of the procedure.

For some, an additional treatment may be necessary after eight weeks to achieve maximum results. Additionally, lifestyle factors can also contribute to achieving lasting results. Some of these include smoking, alcohol consumption, prolonged sun exposure, and other factors that increase skin aging.

Potential Side Effects

RednessA natural skin reaction resembling a sunburn that gradually fades.
Mild SwellingParticularly when treating sensitive areas like eyelids, lasting 2-3 days.
Peeling & CrustingStrategic carbon crusts (dots) forming and exfoliating naturally.
Mild HypopigmentationTemporary light spots as new skin tissue forms underneath.
Mild HyperpigmentationTemporary dark spots, highly preventable with daily SPF 50+ use.

Thorough Aftercare Instructions

Swelling, scabs, and redness are part of normal skin renewal. The effects typically last from 7 to 20 days, depending on the treatment administered. Please follow this protocol diligently:

Wash the treated area morning and evening with Skin Script Green Tea Citrus Cleanser.
Avoid exposure to sunlight. Cover the treated area with 50+ SPF foundation until the redness disappears to avoid hyperchromia (darker spots).
Please do not remove the crusts for any reason. They must fall off independently to avoid depressions, scarring, and skin irregularities.

Day-by-Day Aftercare Protocol

Day 1 - 2
  • Apply CONC-HEALER Healing Camouflage Concealer
  • Apply Sheer Protection SPF 30
  • Apply Colloidal Silver
  • DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE on Day 1 or Day 2
Day 3 – Until Scabs Fall Off
  • You must allow the scabs to heal and fall off naturally.
  • DO NOT SCRATCH YOUR FACE OR PICK AT YOUR SCABS!
  • If itchy, call Bridgey immediately!
  • After 48 hours, you can gently wash your face with Green Tree Cleanser
  • Apply CONC-HEALER Healing Camouflage Concealer
  • Apply Sheer Protection SPF 30
  • Apply Colloidal Silver
  • Apply Aquaphor
After Scabs Fall Off
  • Gently wash your face with Green Tree Cleanser
  • Resume your standard hydration routine and protect your fresh new skin layers with SPF 30-50 daily.

* Note: In darker-skinned clients, discolorations (hyperchromia) are more likely to occur if sunscreen is skipped. In clients with fair or sensitive skin, the redness may persist longer.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required will vary according to the area being treated, skin laxity, the desired degree of correction, and the individual’s response to the treatment. Most patients experience immediate results and will continue to improve over the following eight weeks.

Further treatments can be carried out to achieve better results, but appointments must be spaced at least 8-12 weeks apart per area. Before deciding that a second session in the same area is necessary to achieve better tightening results, ensure that at least two months have passed, as it takes that long to achieve accurate results.
